Some
parenting guidelines- free advice that can bring priceless results!
-
Be consistent! Let
your yes be yes and your no be no. Nothing confuses a child more than
inconsistency. Is it fun to always be consistent? No, but it is worth it!
-
Give children
appropriate control when ever possible. Let children make choices that are
age appropriate. Someday they will be making all their choices, teach them
how to make choices.
-
Be consistent!
-
Keep it simple. Make
it clear what is expected, then expect it! Too many complicated rules are
burdensome and unworkable.
-
Be consistent!
-
Don't get in the habit
of arguing with your child, especially in the heat of battle. Say, "We
will talk about this when we are both calmed down." Then make sure you
do it.
-
Be consistent!
-
Follow through with
consequences. Say the consequences and follow through with them. Get out of
the habit of idle threats. Make the consequences fit the situation.
-
Be consistent!
-
Model to your child in
word and deed. Your actions speak louder than your high volume words.
-
Be consistent!
-
Be problem solvers.
Show your children how to take a bad situation apart and put it back
together in a way that works.
-
Be consistent!
-
Express your love and
faith in your child in word and action. Let them know that they can always
come to you.
